Warning Siren Installed
A warning siren has been installed to alert players to any suspension of play. The most common cause of suspension of play will be when lightning poses a threat to player safety.
A Local Rule has been adopted to allow the committee/golf shop staff to order an immediate suspension of play:
When play is suspended by the Committee for a dangerous situation:
- if the players in a match or group are between the play of two holes, they must not resume play until the Committee has ordered a resumption of play.
- if they are in the process of playing a hole, they must mark their ball and discontinue play immediately and not resume play until the Committee has ordered a resumption of play. If a player fails to discontinue play immediately, he/she is disqualified unless circumstances warrant waiving the penalty as provided in Rule 33-7
Under the rules of golf players also have the right to discontinue play if they think lightning is threatening them, even if the committee has not authorized it specifically by signal. (Rules 6.8 and 33.2d.)
The following signals will be used:
Discontinue Play immediately - One prolonged note of siren.
Discontinue Play - Three consecutive notes of siren, repeated.
Resume Play - Two Short notes of siren, repeated.
Thanks to Alan Hair for installing the siren.
